HA10 - Task 1 Analysis of Game Genre

Task 1 - Analysis of a Game Genre

First-person shooter FPS is a video game genre centered on gun and projectile weapon-based combat through a first-person perspective; that is, the player experiences the action through the eyes of the protagonist, and in some cases, the antagonist. The first-person shooter shares common traits with other shooter games, which in turn fall under the heading action game. From the genre's inception, advanced 3D or pseudo-3D graphics have challenged hardware development, and multi-player gaming has been integral.

The first-person shooter goes as far back as Maze War its development began in 1973, and 1974's Spasim. The genre coalesced with 1992's Wolfenstein 3D, which has been credited with creating the genre proper and the basic archetype upon which subsequent titles were based.

My three FPS Games are:

Destiny

The structure of Destiny is basically the interaction between the player and the game this can be shown when an event happens like a public event the player can rush towards it even though they are doing something else they can just pause what they were doing for a chance to get a reword for defending something or taking out a target these things can happen threw the game and the player can choose to interact with them or just carry on with what they were doing beforehand this interaction can be seen as part of the structure of destiny because you can do all sorts of different things like what I mentioned threw the game the overall games structure is things like the Story missions which you can do solo but the activities can still play them in groups of up to 3 often with ties to the main story  in the campaign of Destiny. These activities appear at various Levels numerical, relative to the player and choosing a higher level relative to you means you're opting in for some additional challenge which can lead to greater rewords.

The game-play in Destiny revolves around its basic genre and thematic elements an open-world, always-online, first-person shooter with persistent-world and massively multi-player online elements in a sci-fantasy setting. However, Bungie has explicitly refused to call Destiny an "MMO" game instead; Bungie and Activision describe the game play style as a "shared-world shooter", as it lacks many of the characteristics of a traditional MMO game. The codes and conventions of destiny are basically the exploding, shooting, fighting game-play this is set like this due to certain guide lines in which the game has to follow because it is a FPS game so it will involve these thing to keep to its pacific genre.

One of the most known character in destiny would be Cayde-6 this character is the one of three Vanguards who guide your guardian and give him quests and other things like that to do the game is revolved around you doing these tasks to then meet new vanguards and characters in the tower where you get other quests and bounties to do this character Cayde-6 is the Vanguard leader the hunter who is a solo based character who works in a team sometimes but is built around working alone some of his abilities include the golden gun which fires three rounds standard but can shoot four with certain Armour equipped. The hunter also has another class which is the blade dancer  which is a blade which you can travel fast with and one hit all of your enemies you can extend the durability for this with a piece of Armour call mast of the third man.

The game is relevant to the other FPS because it involves running and gunning but but other than that it is a team based game where guardians can either work together or fight to the death this is like BF4 because during the online it is basically the same a fast fasted FPS where you can aim for objectives or slaughter the opposing team this is similar throughout all of the FPS games because so they share this but they are represented in different ways from different genres of games.

Far cry 4

Far Cry 4 is an action-adventure first-person shooter video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One video game consoles, and Microsoft Windows. The sequel to the 2012 video game Far Cry 3, it is the fourth installment in the Far Cry series. The structure of Far cry is basically an open world FPS where you battle the environment for survival because everything can kill you from bees to an elephant it all depends on who you start a fight with. The game interacts with you by lots and lots of random events this can include things like as you progress through the game and complete more Karma related tasks you will earn experience points and eventually, increase in level. There are a total of 8 Karma rewards from Karma itself, although Karma level can also unlock access to abilities and weapons.  There are also a surprising number of random events scattered across the map that reward Karma if you get involved. If you see the Karma symbol purple diamond with a solid center then be sure to investigate as most of them are very quick and just as easy.

Far Cry 4 takes place in the fictional country of Kyrat. The player assumes the role of Ajay Ghale attempting to fulfill his mother's dying wish by spreading her ashes in Kyrat. Ghale gets caught in the midst of a brutal civil war between The Golden Path and Pagan Min's Royal Army. Players will be able to craft their own stories as they travel through this exotic open world, using new and updated weapons and vehicles as well as wits to survive.

The codes and conventions for this are the same as any other FPS which are explosions, guns, cars, and women and allot of violence and swearing this is after all what needs to be in a game as fun as this the narrative structure of this would be its maps and things like that because the maps of Far cry are huge and are open to extra content in the game lots of the map is covered by a cloud and when you take a tower that bit of the map is reviled and you have control on that certain area.

One of the characters in Far cry 4 or the main one I like is Pagan min although you play as Ajay Ghale Pagan stands out more because of his posh British accent and the fact he is the guy you are inspired to kill in the end of the game he is a big part of the campaign story and he affects the decisions you make in the game world he is a funny character but with an insane twist which you witness threw game cut scenes he also a very violent character who kills people for  the smallest of things you have the role to take him down but it isn't easy that’s why he’s a humorous  guy because he provokes you to get you reaction.

Battlefield 4

Battlefield 4 is a 2013 first-person shooter video game developed by Swedish video game developer EA Digital Illusions CE (DICE) and published by Electronic Arts. It is a sequel to 2011's Battlefield 3 and was released on October 29, 2013 in North America, October 31, 2013 in Australia, November 1, 2013 in Europe and New Zealand and November 7, 2013 in Japan for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Battlefield 4 ranks go from Private, all the way up to Colonel and perhaps even General. On each step, players get one of the unlocks which could be a weapon, or specialization, or camouflage, etc. When starting out in multiplayer, Battlefield 4 ranks are fairly easy to achieve and only require a few thousand points. As players progress, ranking up takes longer and longer and becomes more challenging. Players can check their progress using the Battlefield 4 stats feature bear in mind this is the multi-player structure I am talking about. The game interacts with player by making sure when a player triggers something the game makes it happens for example on the map siege of shanghai the massive building in the middle of the map can be triggered to falling and making the environment harder to navigate even though the player causes it to gall the game makes it do it with certain commands this is just one of many interactions the player is involved with throw-out the game-play.
The single player campaign features many elements from past installments, taking place in numerous locations across the world. Levels are now built in sandbox-style environments, allowing players more freedom to complete objectives. Players can now spot enemy targets to notify the AI of Tombstone squad. The single player also features three separate endings based on the player’s choice in the final mission.

The single player features assignments that require specific actions and unlock weapons for use in multi-player upon completion. Collectible Weapons return along with the introduction of Collectible Dog Tags which can be used in multi-player. Weapon crates are found throughout all levels, allowing players to obtain ammo and switch weapons. While crates hold default weapons, collectible weapons may be used whenever they are acquired and level specific weapons may be used once a specific mission assignment has been completed by obtaining enough points in a level. There is a few memorable characters such as Daniel Recker, jin jie these are the character you play as who is Recker and jin jie is the one who you are protecting throughout the game these are memorable due to the fact that you see a lot about them and you can see how they affect the games campaign.
